g² Insight Lab conducts independent research into knowledge, investigative reasoning and complex human systems.
Our research asks how evidence becomes knowledge, how investigations can be made more rigorous, and how interacting human systems can be reconstructed and understood.

The research architecture of g² Insight Lab is organised around three foundational questions.
How can we know?
Research into knowledge, evidence, inference, uncertainty, explanation, competing accounts, revision and the limits of what can responsibly be claimed as known.
How do we investigate?
Research into the reasoning structures used when investigators move from incomplete information toward warranted conclusions, including observation, evidence organisation, competing hypotheses, uncertainty, challenge and reassessment.
How does the system behave?
Research into systems made up of interacting people, roles, institutions, rules, communication pathways, authority, incentives, constraints and feedback processes.
The Handbook formally establishes these as the Institute's three research programmes and frames their foundational questions around knowledge and uncertainty, investigation, and the functioning of complex human systems.
Forensic STEM™ is a developing integrative investigative methodology for the structured reconstruction of complex human systems from available evidence.
It is developed principally within the Complex Human Systems research programme while drawing upon work in Philosophy of Inquiry and Science of Investigative Reasoning.
Its current operative procedural specification is:
Post-Comparative Methodological Specification
The methodology remains under active research. Current work does not claim that novelty, validity, reliability, superiority, generalisability or comparative effectiveness have been established.

g² Insight Lab maintains a developing publication record documenting the evolution, specification, comparison and evaluation of its research.
Current formal outputs include Working Papers, White Papers and methodological specifications.
Your present Forensic STEM™ record includes The Methodology of Forensic STEM™ Working Paper No. 001 v4.0, six White Papers, and FS-POST-1.0. The foundational Working Paper explicitly records the relationship between those documents rather than silently replacing earlier positions.
Research conducted under g² Insight Lab operates within the Research Handbook and the wider research governance framework.
The current Handbook identifies principles including Observation Before Explanation, Transparency of Reasoning, Proportionate Confidence, Systematic Inquiry, Reproducibility, Intellectual Independence, Constructive Scientific Critique and Continual Improvement.
The aim is not to protect an idea from challenge.
The aim is to make the reasoning, evidence, uncertainty and revision visible enough that the idea can be challenged.

HOW DOES THE SYSTEM BEHAVE?
Complex Human Systems
The programmes are distinct, but they interact. Questions about evidence affect how investigations are designed. Investigative reasoning affects how systems are reconstructed. Complex systems, in turn, expose new problems of evidence, explanation and uncertainty.
g² Insight Lab develops research through specification, publication, critique, revision and testing.
Forensic STEM™, for example, has moved from foundational formulation through comparative methodological analysis to the current FS-POST-1.0 specification. The immediate research priority has now moved toward independent methodological challenge and subsequent empirical testing.
